Mountaineering

Climbing in the mountains is and will always remain a unique experience. The great grandchildren of the famous mountain guides and pioneers of the past are now leading figures in the modern world of climbing.

Zillertal Alpin is your expert resource in all climbing matters. You, too, can profit from the services of an experienced mountain guide, who places the greatest importance in keeping you, and everyone else, absolutely safe. The opportunities range from beginners' tours on fixed-cable trails to challenging expeditions amid the Zillertal's Alpine world. Equipment such as ice axes, crampons, helmets, fixed-cable gear etc. are all provided. Daily tours: Information and sign-up through the SALEWA STORE in Mayrhofen.

The Zillertal Alps Nature Park is home to bizarre rock formations and rugged mountainsides, promising a real thrill to anyone who loves to climb. Equipped with rope, ice axe and crampons, alpinists will discover summit tours that couldn't be more perfect.

Amongst other things, visitors will discover the "Eternal Hunting Grounds": two ca. 60 m-high granite blocks that tower skywards just a few minutes away from Gasthof Breitlahner in the Zemmgrund. This climbing center, ranging in difficulty between levels 4 and 10, is exceptionally well secured and one of the most beautiful to be found anywhere in Europe. In the area around the Ginzling, you will also discover some of the best lengthier rock-climbing routes anywhere. Also hidden away there is one of the biggest areas for bouldering.

On the Penken, too, you will find two climbing areas ranging from 4 - 8+. In addition, a "Via Ferrata for Everyone" gives even inexperienced climbers an opportunity to enjoy a taste of this exciting sport. Equipment can be borrowed for free at the summit terminal of the Penken chair lift.
